FOUR ORANGUTANS AT CAMP LESIK

A few weeks ago, four orangutans; Lesan, Berlian, Casey and Upi were seen roaming around Camp Lesik.

Lesan was first spotted behind the camp, eating cambium (bark).  Once through eating, Lesan swung through the trees and left the camp, heading for Transect Aldrin.

Lesan
A few hours later, we came across Casey, who was also eating bark. Moments later, Berlian showed up from the hill in front of the camp, carrying a kedondong fruit in her hand. Kedondong (Spondias dulcis) is a fruit commonly used in rujak, a traditional fruit salad.

Casey
Berlian approached Casey, who was enjoying her meal. Casey appeared not to want to be disturbed and moved away from Berlian.

Berlian
Curious, Berlian followed Casey wherever she went. Casey looked a bit intimidated and hurriedly moved away from Berlian.

Upi
Our post release monitoring team ended with observing Upi, who appeared on the hill in front of the camp. Upi seemed to be in good condition and was eating some kedondong fruit. Once she finished eating, Upi went up the hill to look for bark. Not long after, she moved away from Camp Lesik.
