Six More Orangutans Get Their Freedom in the Kehje Sewen Forest!

In cooperation with PT. RHOI and the East Kalimantan BKSDA, the BOS Foundation has successfully released six more orangutans to the Kehje Sewen Forest in East Kutai Regency. All six released orangutans had completed a long period of rehabilitation over several years through our Forest School system.

[PRESS RELEASE] BOS Foundation and Central Kalimantan BKSDA to Release More Orangutans to Bukit Baka Bukit Raya National Park on the 60th Anniversary of Central Kalimantan Province

Borneo Orangutan Survival (BOS) Foundation, in cooperation with the Central Kalimantan BKSDA, will release another six orangutans from the Central Kalimantan Orangutan Reintroduction Centre in Nyaru Menteng (Nyaru Menteng) to the Bukit Baka Bukit Raya National Park (BBBR-NP) in Katingan Regency. BOS Foundation hopes this release will help raise more public awareness on the conservation of the Bornean orangutan, the province’s icon.

Following a global campaign to help us find a special name for the 5-year old albino orangutan, BOS Foundation is delighted to announce that this little girl is named Alba, which means ‘white’ in Latin and ‘dawn’ in Spanish. Hopefully a new dawn will come for these precious animals. The name Alba was selected from thousands of suggestions sent from around the world at name@orangutan.or.id or on social media quoting the hashtag #albinoorangutan

About BOS Foundation

Established in 1991, the Borneo Orangutan Survival (BOS) Foundation is an Indonesian non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of the Bornean orangutan and its habitat, in cooperation with local communities, the Indonesian Ministry of Forestry and international partner organizations.

The BOS Foundation is currently taking care of almost 750 orangutans with the support of 400 highly devoted staff, as well as experts in primatology, biodiversity, ecology, forest rehabilitation, agroforestry, community empowerment, education, and orangutan healthcare.
